"I don't like to share my personal life...
it wouldn't be personal if I shared it."
A George Clooney Condensed Biography
George Clooney was born on May 6, 1961 in Augusta, Kentucky,
to Nick and Nina Clooney. Nick Clooney, was a well known news anchor and
the host of a popular local talk show on WLW at noon, aptly named "The
Nick Clooney Show". Nina Clooney was a beauty queen. His aunt is famed
50's singer Rosemary Clooney (who, BTW, had a cameo in ER as Madame X,
Young George was a regular on dad's talk show, along with his sister
Ava, at least once or twice a week. They would sing and dance, and George
even played a cigar-yielding leprechaun on a St. Patrick's Day show. He
did potato chip and cleaning product commercials as a child. Although home
life was happy for the Clooneys, they got bumped around from one type of
home to the next... from mansions to trailers to farms to suburban homes.
As a young man, George was filling in ocassionally as floor director
for Dad's show. He even helped out on other WRW programs. George began to
get fed up with the politics of television and dreams of being a big-league
sports player, and tried out for the Cincinnati Reds at the age of sixteen.
He was a great hitter, but lacked in other areas. Poor kid. George pondered
what to do with his life, considered going into broadcasting, then decided
to attend Northern Kentucky University. He remained a freshman for three
years, boozed around a lot, partied a lot.
In the summer, George was invited to Lexington by his cousin, Miguel Ferrer,
who was acting in a movie with Aunt Rosemary about horse racing. George
was given a small part in the movie, on the basis of his good looks. This
experience re-introduced young George to the seduction of show business.
He became determined to get an acting career and cut tobacco on his grandfather's
farm, sold insurance and drew caricatures at the mall to earn enough money
to go to Hollywood.
At the age of 21, George set out with his maroon 1976 Monte
Carlo (which he calls "The Danger Car") to Los Angeles with three
hundred dollars to his name. He lived with Aunt Rosemary for about a year,
auditioning for parts (he averaged about a call a week), driving around
his aunt, doing odd jobs, did construction work, and even sold women's shoes.
He got kicked out of Aunt Rosemary's house and then lived buddy Tom Matthews'
closet (where, by some strange reason, he was able to get women in there
with him, according to Tom).
Then things began to happen slowly, but surely, in the next thirteen
years. Ironically, he was in a short-lived CBS comedy called "E/R", which survived for only a year.
He co-starred in a feature with Charlie Sheen, which was and never will
be released. He had parts on numerous other failed televisions shows, including
"Bodies of Evidence", "Baby Talk" and "Sunset Beat",
and in 15 failed pilots. George had parts in some "B" movies,
like "Return of the Killer Tomatoes" and "Return to Horror
High". He was beat out for several movie roles, including Brad Pitt's
part in "Thelma and Louise" and Judd Nelson's part in "The
Breakfast Club". He even turned down a role for a new face on the scene,
Quentin Tarantino, for the movie "Reservoir Dogs". He had roles
in longer running shows like "The Facts of Life", "Sisters"
and "Roseanne".
He had an offer to star in his own show, a cop show called "Golden
Gate", and at the same time, he had an early script for an NBC drama
called "ER" that casting buddy Jonathan Levey gave to him. The
starring role in his own series was seducing, but he decided to go with
the ensemble cast of "ER", claiming the role as Dr. Douglas Ross
("This part's mine! Don't let anyone else read for it."). By the
time there were nine shows in the can, Clooney had a regular job.
Mr. Clooney is definitely a lady's man, having dated Kelly Preston,
Denise Crosby and Kimberly Russell. He was married for eighteen months to
Talia Balsam (they split in 1992). He is Hollywood's number one bachelor,
being seen with some of the most beautiful women in showbiz. He is currently
dating Celine Balitran, a former waitress in a club he patronized.
He vows never to marry again, not to have children, but Dad thinks he will
eat those words when the right women comes along and blows his mind. George
says he doesn't want his career to get in the way, which it definitely will
at this point in time. He says that he does not want to be responsible for
screwing up someone's life, especially someone that he cares about.
George loves to play golf and basketball, and take care of his black pot bellied pig,
Max (his companion in life). Max lives in a doghouse in a fenced-in paddock, and
hates to take baths, of course (he yells and cries, and George smiles at the thought).
Now, George Clooney is Hollywood's man of the moment, the hunk of the
month ("although it's a very long month"), and a proven showbiz
veteran. He is well aware that his career could plummet any day now, having
been a part of this business his whole life, seeing all sorts of things
happen, and he is prepared for it. Not anytime soon, Mr. Clooney. We are
eager and ready for your next project!!
